Esemény leírása

There are several plans for upgrading the CERN LHC: luminosity will be increased in the near future, but there are also ideas for building a new, larger collider (FCC – Future Circular Collider). As magnets are one of the main limiters of the power of a synchrotron, developing superconducting magnet technology is a key element of the upgrade. CERN takes an active part in magnet R&D by designing and testing. Testing happens in the Cryogenic Test Facility (SM18), where new materials (Nb3Sn, HTS) and new magnet structures (CCT) are investigated. The new technologies necessitate upgrades of the testing infrastructure, new measurement and protection techniques are required.
